Clan MacDonald—also known as Clan Donald—is one of the largest and most powerful of all Scottish clans, with a legacy that spans centuries and stretches across the Highlands and Islands. Descended from Somerled, the Norse-Gaelic Lord of the Isles, the MacDonalds were rulers of the western seaboard and played a central role in medieval Scottish politics.
