About Clan MacEwen

Clan MacEwen, sometimes spelled MacEwan, is a Highland clan with ancient roots in Argyll, particularly around the Cowal Peninsula. Though currently considered armigerous (without a recognized chief), the clan has a proud history marked by resilience and revival. Their name is believed to derive from the Gaelic Mac Eoghain, meaning “Son of Ewen.” The crest shows a sprouting oak stump, and the motto “Reviresco”—“I grow strong again”—symbolizes the enduring spirit of the MacEwens and their journey to reclaim recognition among Scotland’s historic clans.
